History of the Argentine Jewish Community

In 2 sessions live Via Zoom Meeting we will review the history of the Argentine Jewish community.

The Argentine Jewish Community is the 6th largest in the world. Maybe you are wondering why?
Why, if Latin America was part of the Spanish Empire, is the Jewish Community in Argentina 80% Ashkenazi and only 20% Sephardic today? Before WWII, many Jews came to Argentina. In a country of immigrants, it became a very important and strong community. What happened in Argentina during and after the Holocaust? Many Nazi criminals came to Argentina after the war. What happened to them?
Did they have any influence in Latin American society and politics?

We are going to answer all these questions and many more during our Virtual Jewish Tour of Argentina, while seeing images of the most important Jewish sites. Among these topics we’ll discuss the first Jewish immigrants, emigration waves, antisemitism, and assimilation; the many political, economic, and social crises Argentina went through, and the two terror attacks we suffered in Buenos Aires. This will include images of the buildings that were attacked and the memorials to remember the victims, and we will learn about the cases, that remain open after so many years.

You’ll learn everything about the Jewish Community in Argentina and, if you want to find out more about the life of a Jew in Buenos Aires today, I will be there to answer any questions you might have.
